Why We Teach: Beyond High Stakes Testing and Extensive Achievement Standards
During these days of high-stakes testing and extensive emphasis on achievement
standards, how can we remember and remain committed to the higher calling that teaching offers?  The deepest
understanding of what it means to teach is that each day unfolds illuminating both opportunities and
responsibilities to participate in the grand revelation of human potential. Remembering this serves to inspire,
enthuse and motivate those work with children in ways that no testing ever can.

formal program or step-by-step procedures to build caring, respectful school communities if you integrate these
simple, but powerful ideas and strategies for transforming how we communicate with others in the hallways and
in organizational meetings.
