About Cathleen

Cathleen is an advocate for education reform in early childhood and
elementary education. Her work embraces an ideology of spiritual
nurturing and peace education in early childhood as the basis for the
creation of a more peaceful world.

By reconsidering how we structure learning environments and by
rethinking how we work with children, the path to peace becomes
clear. Cathleen suggests that by reorganizing early childhood  learning
environments, integrating peace education, and by creating more
Montessori schools, children will fulfill their innate potential for
knowing love, peace and goodness as the organizing forces of the
world .

Inspired by over thirty years of working with children and studying in
depth the life and works of  Maria Montessori, she started
Teaching
For  Peace
eight years ago, as an avenue for sharing her ideas with
educators and parents and to make available to teachers and those who
work with children, ideas, activities, and materials to  nurture the child's
spirit and to teach concepts of peace.

Through seminars, workshops, and in-services Cathleen offers thought-
provoking material on what peace education means and why  peace
education and spiritual nurturing should be the foundation of early
childhood and elementary education. She provides practical advice on
the following: nurturing the inner life of children; establishing  schools
and classrooms that cultivate each child's inborn potential;  and
developing and implementing a peace curriculum. Working with
traditional and Montessori organizations in both private and public
settings, she has presented her work nationally, as well as at a local
level, serving parents, caregivers, teachers, and administrators. Her
writings on these topics have been published in leading Montessori
journals.

Cathleen is uniquely prepared to work with many different educational
